Photography is one of those professions that you either take seriously or you take it as a “side job”, we do this because it’s one of those professions that are not your regular day-to-day job. It’s easy to say that anyone can pick up a camera and take a photo but it’s who is taking the photo and how good of photo it is. Nowadays we can just pick up our phone and take a picture and post it and it might look good but it’s not professional. I’m here to tell you the difference and give you a couple reasons as to why it is the way it is.
Let’s start off with the professional part of photography; to be a professional photographer it is a difficult process because only a few can make it. What makes you a professional is what company you are working for, if you a getting paid to take photos and your “status” in the photography world. A lot of photographers are free-lancers and have their own business but what if you are working for a company; if you are, you are a professional because you are taking the photos for that company that are being published for them. If you have your own business; it depends on where you live, living in a big city it depends on the photos you take or how good your pictures are. By living in a smaller city, you have a bigger chance at being a professional because there are not usually a lot of photographers around you. That meaning you are prone to be a professional where you live. Your “status” in the photography world is something that will make or break you depending on your work and what you create, when people are looking for a photographer are looking for professional work and images that look legit. There are a lot of aspects that can make you a professional photographer, but these are only a few and now I am going to give you a couple that make it a hobby.
A lot of people like to pick up photography as a hobby because it’s something that is “easy” to pick up and do; most of the time it is for taking pictures of family or friends for certain events that are happening. Like me; it started as a hobby by taking pictures of my family or friends and now working on making it professional. It is also something that is fun to do that you can do on your free time and create something that is a piece of art to you and the people around you. A lot of hobby photographers like to think that they are professionals and if they do, try not to take offense to it, they are just as passionate about it as you are. Hobbies are things that we pick up to find things that we like to do in our free time and photography is a big one because it is a fun job, it’s creative and an interesting thing to be able to do.
Like I said earlier photography is something that can be either a hobby or a profession depending on what you are aiming for; some go for a profession and some go just for the hobby part. Depending on what you are going for photography is a topic that will always be a “easy” job and a thing to pick up easy and do but remember by working hard and wanting to go professional you can do it. Every business needs a photographer for certain things and there are always jobs that are needed but you can also do it for fun situations or events for family and friends.
